Buena Vista, VA September 2025 – The City of Buena Vista is pleased to announce details for the FY2026 Façade Improvement Grant Program (FIGP). This program is designed to help local property owners and tenants enhance the exterior appearance of their properties. It provides financial assistance for exterior building improvements, with the goal of promoting economic growth, preserving historic architecture, and enhancing the overall visual appeal of Buena Vista’s business districts and gateway corridors.

Through these investments, the FIGP strengthens Buena Vista’s business districts, improves gateway corridors, and contributes to a more vibrant and welcoming community.

Program Highlights

  • Grant Funding: Up to 50% reimbursement of eligible project costs, with a maximum award of $5,000 per property.
  • Who Can Apply: Commercial property owners, business tenants (with owner approval), and owners of visually blighted residential properties within the program area.
  • Eligible Projects: Exterior, street-facing improvements such as painting, architectural restoration, signage, lighting, masonry repair, and other enhancements listed in the program guide.

How to Apply

  1. Review the Program Guide for full eligibility details and examples of eligible improvements.
  2. Download and complete the Application Form to get started on your project and prepare supporting materials so it’s ready to apply once the application window opens.
  3. Submit your application and attachments starting September 15th to the Economic Development Department in one of the following ways:
    • In Person: 2nd Floor of City Hall, 2039 Sycamore Ave., Buena Vista, VA 24416
    • By Email: business@bvcity.org
    • By Mail: 2039 Sycamore Ave., Buena Vista, VA 24416

Applications must be received by the deadline. Please allow for mailing time if using postal service.

  • Applications Open: September 15, 2025
  • Application Deadline: October 30, 2025 – All applications must be submitted by 4:00 pm
  • Project Completion Deadline: May 29, 2026

Program Oversight

The Façade Improvement Grant Program is administered by the City of Buena Vista Economic Development Department and is supported by the Economic Development Authority (EDA), also serving as the applicant review panel to ensure a fair and transparent selection process.
