The City of Buena Vista is reviewing updates to its Home Occupation regulations — rules that outline how businesses can operate from a residence within city limits. A draft version of proposed updates has been prepared and will go before the Planning Commission for the public hearing on November 12th. Before that public hearing, the City is seeking feedback from the community, particularly from the residents who operate home-based businesses or may be affected by the changes.
Emails have been sent to all licensed businesses with an email address on file, and feedback is being gathered through multiple channels, including direct outreach to business owners, discussions with City Council and appointed boards, and comments from the broader community.
The goal of these updates is to modernize the City’s existing regulations–which have not been substantially updated since 1986–while maintaining the balance between supporting home-based businesses and preserving the residential character of Buena Vista’s neighborhoods.
The City welcomes early feedback on the draft text prior to or at the Planning Commission public hearing on November 12th at 7pm in City Council Chambers.
Residents and business owners are encouraged to review the draft and share feedback by emailing Tom Roberts at troberts@bvcity.org or calling (540) 261-8607.
