Job Description/Responsibilities:

The Buena Vista Police Department is seeking applicants interested in a rewarding career in professional law enforcement. Officers take responsibility for the enforcement of laws and ordinances pursuant to the City of Buena Vista, State, and Federal Governments, as well as providing assistance to the public. Officers are subjected to hazardous and life threatening situations and must maintain an effective working relationship with the public and other employees.

Additionally, officers will patrol designated areas of the City of Buena Vista to preserve law and order and to prevent and discover the commission of crime, to direct traffic, and to enforce motor vehicle laws. As directed, they will answer calls and complaints involving suspicious and criminal activities, domestic disputes, and other related citizen requests for service. Each officer shall be responsible for maintaining records, reports and all other duties as assigned.

Salary & Benefits

Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience starting at $40,047. Benefits include educational incentives through tuition reimbursement and annual bonus for those looking to further their education; retirement VSRS, LEO; Uniforms and Equipment furnished; Health and Life Insurance; Paid Holidays. Preference will be given to DCJS certified officers.

Minimal Qualifications Include:

• High school graduate or GED certification
• Must be 21 years of age;
• Possess a valid Virginia driver’s license;
• Must be a citizen of the United States or possess permanent resident status as granted by the I.N.S.
• No convictions of felonies or crimes involving moral turpitude or domestic violence.
• Must not have been released or discharged under dishonorable conditions from any U.S. Military Services.

Applicants must successfully complete a written examination, physical agility testing, oral interviews, extensive background investigation, medical examination, drug screen, etc.

Job Description/Responsibilities:

The Buena Vista Public Works Department is seeking individuals interested in serving on our Street and Sanitation Crews.

• The Street Crew maintains and repairs public streets, traffic signage and lights, storm drainage systems and other city facilities.
• The Sanitations Crew is responsible for collecting and disposing of both residential and commercial garbage and brush.

Salary & Benefits

Salary is based on qualifications and experience.

Benefits include medical insurance options with the City paying up to 80% of the monthly premium and enrollment into the Virginia Retirement System.

Minimal Qualifications Include:

• Must be 18 years of age.
• Street crew applicants must possess a valid driver’s license.
• Sanitation crew applicants are not required to possess a valid driver's license, but it is preferred.

Job Description/Responsibilities

Performs responsible clerical work and customer service functions. Work Involves the receipting of funds related to customer and/or business accounts for taxes, business licenses, utilities, and all other revenue.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must have excellent customer service skills, the ability to interact patiently, respectfully, with tact and courtesy with the citizens and staff of the City of Buena Vista. The individual must represent the City positively and appropriately at all times.

• Requires excellent verbal and written communication skills, problem solving ability, attention to detail, flexibility, reliability, and teamwork, and must maintain a high level of confidentiality
• Handle cash safely and securely when processing multiple source payments
• Work accurately and efficiently in a fast-paced, high traffic environment during busy bill periods
• Must be able to work a flexible schedule during heavy workload
• General knowledge of standard office procedures, practices and equipment to include computers, printers, telephones, fax machines, copy machines, and adding machines
• Ability to relate positively with co-workers and the general public on a daily basis

Salary range is $36,800-$37,600

Minimal Qualifications Include:

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED) is required. Customer service experience preferred.
