Buena Vista Awarded Virginia Outdoors Foundation Grant for Downtown Gathering Space

Buena Vista, VA – Buena Vista has been awarded a $78,000 grant from the Virginia Outdoors Foundation to acquire and clean up the “Town Square” property on Magnolia Avenue. The award, part of the Preservation Trust Fund Public Access Program, is one of 33 issued this year to create, expand, and make more accessible public open space.

The grant will allow the City to purchase the property at the corner of 21st street and Magnolia Avenue to create a gathering space for pedestrian seating, outdoor recreational activities and events, information sharing, and more. The property will be acquired for $75,000 and the remaining $3,000 will be used for cleanup and preparation. The City is seeking additional funding sources for design and full development of the site.

The City will be partnering with Action BV, a committee of citizens and businesses working to create a vibrant community, to design and develop the property. As well as other community groups and businesses within the city.

“The goal is to create a vibrant open space for the community and visitors alike to gather,” said Kristina Ramsey, Economic Development and Marking Coordinator. “We want this to be a space that everyone enjoys, so it is important for the community to have a part in creating it. This is a fun way for everyone to get involved in the revitalization of downtown.”

Community members, organizations, and businesses are encouraged to get involved in this exciting project. To get involved, contact Kristina Ramsey via email at kristina.ramsey@bvcity.org
