Buena Vista, VA (August 2024) – City of Buena Vista City Manager, Jason Tyree, announces the hiring of Steve Bolster as the City’s new Finance Director. Mr. Bolster will begin his duties on September 11th, 2024.
Mr. Bolster comes to the City of Buena Vista from the Central Shenandoah Planning District Commission (CSPDC), where he served as Senior Planner. Prior to joining the CSPDC, Mr. Bolster served 11 years as Rockbridge County’s Director of Fiscal Services. His career includes extensive experience in fiscal management, procurement, accounting, and budgeting. Mr. Bolster is also a veteran of the United States Air Force, where he retired as a Major.

“After an extensive search for Buena Vista’s new Finance Director, I’m happy to welcome Mr. Bolster to the Buena Vista Family!”, said City Manager, Jason Tyree. “He has a wealth of experience in municipal finance, budgeting, and leadership that will positively guide the City’s fiscal planning and operations. The role of Finance Director is one of the most important jobs in an organization, and I know Mr. Bolster will be a huge asset to our team.

Mr. Bolster holds a Master of Business Administration degree in Public Management from Touro University International and a Bachelor of Applied Science in Management from Mount Olive College. Mr. Bolster Is a Certified Government Financial Manger with the Association of Government Accountants.

“I’m honored to join the City of Buena Vista and excited about the opportunity to serve in the role of Finance Director. I plan to use my years of experience in government finance to assist the City with continuing its momentum of growth into the future,” commented Mr. Bolster.

The City is confident that Mr. Bolster’s extensive experience will greatly enhance the Finance Department, support city staff, and positively impact the entire City of Buena Vista.
