FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Buena Vista, VA (January 2024) –The City of Buena Vista is thrilled to announce its partnership with the local timber framers group and Virginia Military Institute (VMI) to build a pavilion for the “Town Square” project. This exciting collaboration will jumpstart the project, which aims to create a welcoming and vibrant community space at the heart of downtown Buena Vista.

On April 5-9, 2024, local timber framers and seasoned professionals from across the country will construct a timber frame pavilion designed by VMI students at the corner of Magnolia and 21st Street in downtown. The pavilion build will align with Phase 1 of the project to complete a number of components of the recently completed design, which was designed to meet community needs and desires following public input sessions. When fully complete, downtown will have a gathering place for outdoor events, markets, and activities so people of all ages can gather to enjoy the outdoors and everything downtown has to offer.

“We are excited about this partnership to kickoff this impactful project,” said Kristina Ramsey, Director of Economic Development. “This partnership will help us to engage the community and realize our vision for a beautiful and functional community space that will benefit residents and visitors alike.”

The City of Buena Vista is currently seeking donations to help fund the project. All contributions, large or small, are appreciated and will go towards making this project a reality. Additionally, the City is seeking organizations and groups to contribute meals to fuel and energize volunteers during the build weekend. Those interested in donating can do so by visiting the project website.
